We Welcome our New GP Registrars
We welcome our new GP Registrars – Dr Khan, Dr Alencherry, Dr Vowles and Dr Waldie, who join us in August 2025!
Training Practice
Marazion Surgery is an accredited Training Practice which means that we meet the high standards of clinical care set by the Peninsula Deanery to teach medical students and qualified doctors in their foundation and specialist years.
GP Registrars – Peninsula Deanery
We currently provide placements for GP Registrars, who are fully qualified doctors with a great deal of medical experience, who are training to specialise as General Practitioners. They are attached to the Practice for up to 12 months.
If you are seen by a GP Registrar, you are being seen by a qualified doctor, just one that hasn’t fully completed their GP training yet. They essentially do the same job as a normal GP but will be able to ask questions to another GP should they come across a particularly tricky case they’re not sure how to manage.
A GP Registrar is responsible for diagnosing and treating various medical conditions, offering preventative healthcare advice, and managing long-term health conditions.
Medical Students from Years 2, 4 & 5 – Exeter Medical School
When you book an appointment, you will be informed if there is a medical student due to be present. The student may observe your consultation with a doctor, nurse or other clinician. A more experienced student may consult with you, before presenting your case to one of our usual doctors; you will see both the student and one of our usual doctors.
If you would prefer our medical student(s) NOT to be present during your consultation, please let the doctor/nurse know, or please inform Reception before you are called. We want you to feel comfortable during your consultation, so will not take offence if you prefer an observing student to step out.
The Practice won the Excellence and Innovation in Clinical Teaching Team Award for 2022-2023 from the University of Exeter Medical School.
Your agreement ensures that our future doctors get the necessary experience and are well-trained. All learners are closely supervised by one of our permanent GPs. If you prefer not to see a GP Registrar or student, please let our patient advisers know when you make the appointment.
The practice may also offer other placements, such as Trainee Pharmacist. All are fully supervised by the appropriate qualified clinician.
